• 18th (Sunday): 10am to 3pm (Instructors: Kanamaru, Dallenger)

This seminar will cover a wide range of techniques, theory, and practice methods, from beginning to intermediate levels. Experience with the Chapman Stick is not required. Anyone interested in learning to play the Stick is welcome!

Saturday night, we will go to local cafe Organ-za for dinner and student performances.
Sunday night, there will be a performance by Kanamaru, Dallenger,and ramuji, “Hiroshima Stick Night” at 、Rakuza.

Leading Japanese Stick player Kanamaru Toshiaki Kanamaru studied music theory from KATSU, one of the top stickists in Japan.　He has experienced several kinds of music to reach his present performance.　In 2004, he started his solo work. Now he expresses a unique world of music with elements from Jazz and New Age.　He is known for stage music and energetic collaboration with artists of other fields. He released his first album “Get on the Stick” in July 2005, followed by his second album “HUMAN FEELINGS” in 2007.

From Miyazaki Prefecture, Stick playerDerek Dallenger Derek is one of a very small number of professional Chapman Stick players in Japan, living and working in southern Kyushu. He began playing Stick in 1991 in his home country, England and has several cd releases to his credit. Described by Emmett Chapman as “…a distinctive instrumental stylist”, he has been featured on radio and tv both in England and Japan. He is currently working on recordings for a new album, while also continuing live solo performances.
